Lightspeed POS pricing for retail is $89 a month on Basic, $149 on Core and $289 on Plus when billed annually, or $109, $179 and $339 month to month. Each plan includes one register; extra registers and locations cost more, and card payments through Lightspeed Payments are charged per transaction on top. Forecasting and order recommendations (Lightspeed Insights) come only with Plus. The plan prices and the feature split below come from Lightspeed's US retail pricing page, which covers Lightspeed Retail (X-Series).
The subscription is the easy part. What a US store actually pays depends on how many registers and locations it runs, which processor it uses, and whether the plan it can afford includes the reports it needs to buy stock. Here is the full plan table, the costs around it, three real budgets and the cheaper way to get reorder forecasts if Plus is out of reach.
Lightspeed POS pricing plans at a glance
| Plan | Billed annually (per month) | Billed monthly | Yearly total on annual billing | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $89 | $109 | $1,068 | POS, one register, inventory, integrated payments, basic ecommerce |
| Core | $149 | $179 | $1,788 | Loyalty, advanced sales, staff and inventory reports, accounting and ecommerce integrations, Scanner app, landed costs |
| Plus | $289 | $339 | $3,468 | Insights (forecasting, order recommendations, custom reports), API, workflows, custom roles, SSO, 24/7 phone support |
Lightspeed says annual billing saves up to 18 percent, which matches the gap between $89 and $109. All three plans include inventory management with variants, purchase orders and receiving, Lightspeed Wholesale, the NuORDER catalog and PO sync. Onboarding and professional services are offered on every plan but not priced on the page.
How much does Lightspeed POS cost per month?
A single-register US retail store pays $89 to $289 a month on annual billing, or $109 to $339 paying monthly, before card processing and hardware. Each additional register adds about $59 a month and each additional location is billed as another plan, according to independent US reviews; Lightspeed's own calculator shows the add-ons once you enter your counts. So two registers on Core cost about $208 a month billed annually.
Does Lightspeed charge per transaction?
Yes, through payment processing. Lightspeed Payments is built in, and the US pricing page lists a 1.5 percent card-present rate on all three plans, with a per-transaction fee and higher rates for keyed and online payments set in the merchant agreement. Older reviews quote 2.6 percent plus 10 cents, so get the full rate, including the fixed fee and chargeback fee, in writing before you sign.
If you keep your own processor, Lightspeed's payments FAQ says a monthly third-party processing fee applies. The amount is not published, so ask for it. On $40,000 a month of card sales, every 0.1 percentage point is $40 a month, which can matter more than the gap between Basic and Core.
Lightspeed retail pricing beyond the subscription
- Hardware. iPads, stands, receipt printers, scanners and card readers are bought separately, and the payment terminals must come from Lightspeed.
- Extra registers and locations. Every plan includes one register. A second checkout or a second store raises the monthly bill.
- Onboarding. Optional setup and data import packages are quoted by sales rather than listed.
- Ecommerce. Basic includes a basic online store; the fuller ecommerce and integrations start on Core.
- Apps. Accounting, marketing and forecasting apps from the Lightspeed marketplace carry their own subscriptions.
Three real Lightspeed POS budgets
| Store | Plan and setup | Software per month (annual) | Software per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gift shop, one register | Basic | $89 | $1,068 |
| Outdoor store, two registers, online store and QuickBooks | Core plus one register (about $59) | About $208 | About $2,496 |
| Three-location apparel retailer that wants forecasts | Plus at three locations | About $867 | About $10,404 |
Card processing and hardware sit on top of every line. The third row is where the plan choice bites: the jump from Core to Plus is $140 a month per location, and for many stores the main reason to make it is Insights, the only Lightspeed plan feature that forecasts demand and recommends orders.
Which Lightspeed plan includes inventory forecasting?
Only Plus. Basic and Core let you set a reorder point and a desired level for each item, then build a purchase order from the items that fall below it. The numbers are the ones you type, and they stay where you typed them when sales change. Insights on Plus adds forecasting, order recommendations and custom reporting.
That leaves Basic and Core stores with two choices: pay $140 more per location per month for Plus, or connect a forecasting tool to the plan they already have. Storekeeper reads Lightspeed sales and works out a forecast, reorder point and order quantity for every item and variant, for $49 a month with one location or $149 with up to five and draft purchase orders by vendor. Our Lightspeed inventory management page shows how the numbers feed back into Lightspeed's reorder point and level columns, and the inventory replenishment software page explains the method.
Is Lightspeed POS worth the price?
For a US specialty retailer with a deep catalog of variants (apparel, bikes, sporting goods, home goods), yes, it is one of the strongest retail POS systems at this price. Variants, purchase orders with receiving, the NuORDER wholesale catalog and PO sync are built in from Basic, which is where cheaper POS systems run out.
It is weaker value when the store mainly needs a till: Square and Clover start lower and do simple counting well. It also gets expensive fast across several locations, because each one is a plan. And the money side still needs a home: card deposits land in the bank net of fees and refunds, so a store doing month-end books benefits from bank reconciliation software that matches each payout to the sales behind it.
Lightspeed vs other retail POS on price
| POS | Entry price per month | Forecasting |
|---|---|---|
| Lightspeed Retail | $89 annual, $109 monthly | Insights on Plus ($289) |
| Square for Retail | Free plan; Plus $49 and Premium $149 per location | Low stock alerts, no forecast |
| Shopify POS | Included with Shopify; POS Pro about $89 per location | No forecast (Stocky shut down August 31, 2026) |
| Clover | Hardware-bundled plans; SKU IQ inventory add-on from $39 | Stock alerts only |
The POS-specific pages go deeper on each: Square inventory management, Shopify POS inventory management and Clover inventory management.
Does Lightspeed have a free trial or a contract?
Lightspeed offers a free trial of its retail POS, and reviewers report 14 days without a credit card. Monthly billing can be stopped like any subscription; the annual price is a 12-month commitment. Check the processing agreement separately, because terminal leases and payment terms are where longer commitments usually hide.
Questions to ask before you buy Lightspeed
- How many registers and locations will you run in a year, not today? Price the plan at that count.
- What is the full processing rate, including the per-transaction fee, for card-present, keyed and online sales?
- Do you need forecasts and order recommendations? If yes, compare Plus at $140 more per location with a demand forecasting tool on Basic or Core, and Storekeeper's plans.
- Which apps will you add (accounting, ecommerce, loyalty), and what do they cost each month?
