Lightspeed inventory management system and Lightspeed inventory software, with reorder forecasts for Lightspeed POS inventory
Lightspeed reorders from the numbers you type in. Storekeeper works those numbers out for you: a forecast for every item, a reorder point that follows its sales, and the quantity to put on the next vendor order.

Lightspeed Retail includes inventory management on every plan: stock counts per location, vendors, purchase orders, and a reorder point plus desired level for each item. On Basic ($89 a month billed yearly) and Core ($149) those two numbers are typed in by hand. Forecasting and order recommendations come with Lightspeed Insights, which is only on Plus ($289). Storekeeper adds per-item forecasts and suggested order quantities for $49 a month, less than the $140 step from Core to Plus.
Lightspeed POS inventory on Basic, Core and Plus
Checked against Lightspeed's US retail pricing page and its Retail support articles. Yearly prices shown; monthly billing is $109, $179 and $339.
| Inventory feature | Basic, $89 | Core, $149 | Plus, $289 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Products, variants, stock per location | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Reorder point and desired level per item | Yes, typed by you | Yes, typed by you | Yes, typed by you |
| Purchase orders to vendors | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Advanced sales and inventory reports | No | Yes | Yes |
| Mobile scanner app for counts | No | Yes | Yes |
| Landed costs | No | Yes | Yes |
| Insights (forecasting, order recommendations) | No | No | Yes |
On Basic and Core the system does exactly what you tell it. When an item falls to its reorder point, Lightspeed adds it to the purchase order and fills the quantity up to the desired level. If those two numbers are stale, the order is stale too.
Built for Lightspeed stores with thousands of variants and seasonal buying
Bike shops, outdoor and sporting goods, apparel and footwear boutiques, pet stores, gift and home shops. Lightspeed is popular with these stores because it handles size and color matrices well. The same matrices are what make hand-set reorder points impossible to keep current: a jacket in five sizes and four colors is twenty numbers to maintain, and they all change when the season turns.
- One store on Basic or Core. Starter at $49 a month forecasts every variant and flags what to order this week.
- Two to five stores, or Lightspeed plus an online shop. Growth at $149 plans each location and drafts one purchase order per vendor.
- Already on Plus. Insights gives you a forecast. Storekeeper is worth a look if you want vendor lead times, safety stock and dead stock in dollars in the same view.
Why Lightspeed reorder points still let best sellers sell out
A reorder point is right only if it covers the units you sell while the next delivery is on its way. That changes item by item and month by month.
| Item (one store) | Sells per week | Vendor lead time | Typed reorder point | Point that covers lead time plus safety stock |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 700x28 inner tube | 24 | 1 week | 10 | About 34. At 10 the shelf is empty before the box arrives. |
| Rain jacket, size M, black | 3 in October, 0.5 in June | 4 weeks | 4 | About 15 in October, about 3 in June. One number is wrong in both seasons. |
| Trail helmet, size S | 0.3 | 3 weeks | 4 | About 2. At 4 you keep reordering stock that sits for months. |
| Chain lube, 4 oz | 9 | 2 weeks | 10 | About 24. The vendor's case of 12 rounds the order up. |
Figures are illustrative. The pattern is not: fast movers get points that are too low, slow sizes get points that are too high, and seasonal items are wrong half the year. The reorder list report shows what is under its point, never whether the point itself still makes sense.
From Lightspeed sales to a vendor order in four steps
The demo at the top of the page runs the same chain on sample data, so you can see what gets flagged and why.
Bring in Lightspeed sales
Connect your Lightspeed account, or upload the item sales report exported from Lightspeed. Each variant and each store gets its own sales history.
Add vendors and lead times
One lead time, order day and case size per vendor, with overrides for items that ship slower. A typed reorder point never sees any of this.
Forecast every variant
Trend and seasonality per item, then a reorder point and safety stock that are recalculated every day as sales move.
Order by vendor
A suggested quantity and an order-by date for each line. On Growth the lines become a draft purchase order per vendor, ready to check and send.
Lightspeed inventory software that decides the next order
Lightspeed keeps ringing up sales, counting stock and receiving orders. Storekeeper handles the part in between.
Reorder points that move
Each variant gets a point sized from its own sales and its vendor's lead time, updated daily. You can copy them into Lightspeed's reorder point and level columns if you like.
Size curves that follow sales
Medium outsells XS three to one in most apparel lines. The suggested order splits across the matrix the way customers actually buy it.
Seasonal buying
Last year's curve lifts the forecast ahead of spring riding season or the holiday rush, so the order goes out while vendors still have stock.
Case sizes and minimums
Quantities round to the vendor's case pack and respect order minimums, so the PO is one you can actually send.
Dead stock in dollars
Items with no sale in 90 days, ranked by the cash they hold, so the markdown rack gets the right products first.
Several stores, one plan
On Growth each store gets its own forecast, and transfers are suggested before you buy more of what another store already has.
Ways to add forecasting to Lightspeed, compared honestly
Prices from each vendor's own pricing page. Where a vendor quotes, we say so.
| Option | Monthly cost | What it adds | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stay on Basic or Core | $0 extra | Reorder list from points you set by hand | Stores with a few hundred steady items and time to review points each season |
| Upgrade to Lightspeed Plus | +$140 over Core yearly, +$160 monthly | Insights forecasting and order recommendations, plus API, workflows, custom roles, SSO, 24/7 phone | Stores that also want the API and custom roles |
| StockTrim | Priced by revenue band, $298 at $3M to $5M | Forecasts and order plans, integrates with Lightspeed X-Series | Larger X-Series retailers and wholesalers |
| Inventory Planner by Sage | By quote | Forecasting and purchase orders, Lightspeed integration | Brands with a dedicated buyer and budget for a quote-led tool |
| Finale Inventory | From $499 | Warehouse and barcode system with a Lightspeed integration | Stores running a real warehouse behind the shop floor |
| Storekeeper | $49 Starter, $149 Growth ($39 and $119 yearly) | Per-variant forecast, reorder points, quantities, dead stock; draft POs on Growth | Basic and Core stores that want the reorder decision without changing POS plan |
Where Lightspeed wins: if you already pay for Plus, Insights is included and there is nothing to connect. Where we fit: on Core, Storekeeper Starter costs $91 a month less than the step up to Plus, and it plans vendor lead times and case packs item by item. See our inventory replenishment software page for the method and the retail inventory software page if you are still choosing a POS.
