Storekeeper
For stores that ring up sales on Clover

Clover inventory management app for Clover POS inventory management, with reorder forecasts and purchase orders

Clover counts every unit you sell. It does not tell you what to buy next. Storekeeper reads your Clover sales, forecasts each item and hands you the reorder: which items, how many, and the date the order has to go out.

The short answer

Clover has inventory management built in. The Inventory app tracks stock counts, lowers them automatically with every sale, can switch an item off when it hits zero, and lets you set a low stock threshold per item. It does not forecast demand or suggest how much to reorder. Clover retailers add that with an app: Thrive runs $59 to $559 a month, the SKU IQ add-on $39 to $399, and Storekeeper starts at $49 a month for per-item forecasts, reorder points and quantities.

What you already have

Clover POS inventory, what the built-in tools do and where they stop

Settings live on the Clover dashboard under Settings, Business operations, Inventory, and in the Inventory app on the device.

Clover feature What it does What it leaves to you
Track stock Holds a quantity for every item, including decimal quantities for items sold by weight Counting and receiving: the number is only as good as the last count
Automatically update item counts Every sale lowers the item's count on the spot Turning that history into a rate of sale you can plan with
Automatic availability When the count reaches zero the item is switched off and cannot be sold until you update it It fires when the shelf is already empty, which is too late to reorder
Low stock threshold A number per item; the item is flagged as low once stock drops below it (US and Canada) Choosing the number for hundreds of items and changing it when sales or suppliers change
Sales reports Item sales by day, week or month on the dashboard, exportable to a spreadsheet The forecast, the reorder quantity and the purchase order

In short, Clover records what happened. The reorder decision, the part that decides whether you sell out in December or sit on cases of slow stock in February, is still a spreadsheet job for most Clover stores.

Who buys this

Built for Clover retailers who reorder the same items every few weeks

Liquor and wine shops, hardware stores, gift and kitchen shops, pet supply stores, cafes that sell retail goods. The pattern is the same: a few hundred to a few thousand items, a handful of distributors with different delivery days, and an owner or manager who places the orders between customers.

  • One store on Clover. Starter at $49 a month forecasts every item and flags what to order this week.
  • Two to five locations, or Clover plus an online store. Growth at $149 plans each location and drafts one purchase order per vendor.
  • Seasonal spikes. Holiday, grilling season, back to school: the forecast lifts reorder points before the rush, not after it.
The problem with one number

Why a Clover low stock threshold still lets best sellers run out

A threshold is only right if it covers the sales you make while the next delivery is on its way. Speed and lead time differ item by item.

Item Sells per day Vendor lead time Threshold typed at 12 Calculated reorder point
Popular 750 ml bourbon 3 7 days (weekly distributor truck) Flags with 4 days left; one missed truck and the shelf is empty for a week 30 bottles (7 days of sales plus 3 days of safety stock)
Specialty mezcal 0.2 7 days Flags with 60 days of stock left; cash sits on the shelf 3 bottles
Imported ceramic mug 1.2 45 days Flags with 10 days left; out of stock for about five weeks 66 units (45 days of sales plus 10 days of safety stock)
Charcoal bag in May 2 now, 7 by July 10 days Flags on the spring pace and misses the summer jump Rises through June as the seasonal forecast lifts demand

Reorder point = average daily sales x (lead time + safety days). You can work that out for every item and retype it into Clover each month, or let it recalculate daily. The math and how safety stock is sized are on our inventory replenishment software page.

How it works

From Clover sales to a purchase order in four steps

The demo at the top of the page runs the same chain on sample data, so you can see what gets flagged and why.

1

Bring in Clover sales

Connect your Clover account, or upload the item sales export from the Clover dashboard. Each item and variant gets its own sales history.

2

Add vendors and lead times

One lead time and order day per distributor, with overrides for slow items. This is the input a typed threshold never sees.

3

Forecast every item

Trend and seasonality per item, then a reorder point and safety stock, recalculated daily as sales move.

4

Order, grouped by vendor

A suggested quantity and an order-by date for each item. On Growth the lines become a draft purchase order per distributor, ready to check and send.

What you get

Clover inventory tracking that ends in a reorder, not a report

Everything here is about the next order. Clover keeps doing what it does well: ringing up sales and counting stock.

A reorder point per item

Sized from that item's sales and its vendor's lead time, so the fast bourbon and the slow mezcal get different triggers.

Suggested order quantity

Forecast demand over the lead time and cover period plus safety stock, minus what is on the shelf and what is already on order.

Order-by dates per distributor

Items that will run out before the next truck go to the top, so the Tuesday order includes them.

Seasonal reorder points

Points rise ahead of the holidays, summer or back to school and fall after, without anyone retyping thresholds in Clover.

Dead stock in dollars

Items with no sales in 60, 90 or 180 days, with the cash tied up in each, so you know what to mark down before you buy more.

Several stores, one plan

Each Clover location is planned on its own sales. Growth covers five locations plus an online store; see multichannel inventory management.

The honest split: if you need stocktakes, barcode receiving, transfers and recipe tracking in one tool, Thrive covers more of the back office. If Clover already handles counting and the pain is ordering the right amount, Storekeeper answers that for less. Plans are on the pricing page, and Square stores can compare on our Square inventory management page.

Frequently asked

Clover inventory management questions, answered

Does Clover have inventory management?
Yes. Every Clover system includes the Inventory app, which stores your items, prices, variants and stock counts. Turn on Track stock and Automatically update item counts, and each sale lowers the count. Clover can also mark an item unavailable when it reaches zero. It does not forecast demand or calculate how much to reorder, which is why many stores add an inventory app.
How do I track inventory on Clover?
On the Clover dashboard, open Settings, then Inventory under Business operations, select Edit and turn on Track stock and Automatically update item counts. On the device, the same switches are in the Inventory app settings. Then enter a starting count for each item. From that point Clover lowers the count with every sale, and you add stock when deliveries arrive.
Can Clover send low stock alerts?
Clover supports a low stock threshold per item in the US and Canada, and items below it are flagged as low. The threshold is a number you set and maintain yourself. For alerts that move with sales speed and vendor lead time, use an app that calculates reorder points. Storekeeper sets one per item and shows the quantity to order.
What is the best inventory app for Clover?
It depends on the job. SKU IQ ($39 to $399 a month) is strongest at syncing Clover with an online store. Thrive ($59 to $559) covers counts, transfers and scanning, with forecasting from its $279 plan. If Clover already counts well and you need to know what and how much to reorder, Storekeeper starts at $49 a month.
Does Clover do purchase orders?
Clover's own Inventory app is built around items and stock counts, so most stores place distributor orders by phone, email or the vendor's portal and then add the stock in Clover. Storekeeper builds the suggested order per vendor and, on Growth, a draft purchase order you review and send. More on our purchase order software page.
How much does Clover inventory management cost?
The built-in Inventory app comes with your Clover plan at no separate fee. Add-on apps are billed monthly through the Clover App Market or the vendor: SKU IQ from $39, Thrive from $59. Storekeeper costs $49 a month for one location or $149 for up to five locations and channels, $39 and $119 when billed yearly.
