Stocky replacement: Shopify Stocky alternative for demand forecasting and purchase orders

Shopify retired Stocky on August 31, 2026. Purchase orders, transfers and suppliers moved into Shopify admin. The demand forecast and the suggested order quantities did not. Storekeeper brings that part back for every SKU in your store, recalculated every day.

The short answer

The right Stocky replacement depends on which Stocky job you relied on. If you only used it for purchase orders, transfers and stock counts, Shopify admin now covers those at no extra cost. If you relied on Stocky's demand forecasting and suggested order quantities, you need a separate app, because Shopify has no native per-SKU forecast, reorder point or ABC analysis. Storekeeper does that job from $49 a month, with auto-drafted purchase orders on the $149 Growth plan.

What happened

Is Stocky being discontinued? The dates that matter

Stocky did not disappear in one step. The forecasting went first, more than a year before the app itself.

Date What changed What it means for you
July 7, 2025 Stocky stops supporting inventory transfers and min/max forecasting Reorder suggestions based on min/max levels stopped working here
February 2, 2026 Stocky is removed from the Shopify App Store No new installs, and an uninstalled copy cannot be reinstalled
August 31, 2026 Stocky shuts down and its APIs stop working Day-to-day inventory work moves to Shopify admin and POS
At least 90 days after shutdown Read-only access for exporting reports Export purchase order reports, stocktake history and cost data now

Stocky came bundled with Shopify POS Pro, and stores that installed it before May 4, 2020 kept it at no charge. That is why so many retailers never priced a replacement: the forecasting was simply there. Shopify's official path is its built-in inventory management, which handles the paperwork well and leaves the buying decision to you.

Job by job

What replaced Stocky in Shopify admin, and what is still missing

Shopify published its own feature mapping. Here it is next to the gap each job leaves, and where Storekeeper fits.

Stocky job Where it lives in Shopify now What is missing Storekeeper
Demand forecasting and suggested order quantities Sidekick, Shopify's AI assistant, answers questions about sales history No per-SKU forecast, reorder point or safety stock you can buy against 30, 60 and 90-day forecast per SKU with trend and seasonality, on every plan
Purchase orders Purchase orders in Shopify admin, received through linked transfers Every quantity is typed in by hand Draft purchase orders grouped by supplier, quantities filled in (Growth)
Low-stock alerts Shopify Flow automations A fixed threshold per variant that does not move with demand A warning when stock will run out inside the supplier lead time
Reports (ABC, slow sellers) Custom reports in Shopify Analytics No ABC analysis or dead-stock value Dead and slow SKUs flagged with the dollars they tie up
Suppliers Suppliers created in Shopify admin and attached to POs Stocky supplier records cannot be exported Lead time set once per supplier, overridable per SKU
Transfers between locations Native transfers in admin and POS Nothing tells you which location should send stock Transfer suggestions when one location is overstocked and another is short
Stocktakes Quick count in Shopify POS (up to 1,000 items), CSV for full counts Large counts are offline spreadsheet work Not a counting app. Keep counting in Shopify; the forecast reads the result
What you get back

The Stocky forecasting you lost, rebuilt for every SKU

Stocky's suggestions leaned on past sales and min/max levels. These six jobs go further, and they update as orders come in.

A forecast per variant

The black medium and the black large get their own rate and trend. A variant that took off last month forecasts hotter instead of being averaged away with the rest of the product. More on the method on our demand forecasting software page.

Reorder points that move

Reorder point and safety stock are sized from forecast demand, supplier lead time and how volatile the SKU is. You stop maintaining min/max numbers that were right last season.

Suggested orders by supplier

Reorder quantities roll up into draft purchase orders per supplier. Review, send to the vendor, and receive the stock against a Shopify purchase order the way you do today.

Stockout warnings with a deadline

A SKU that will run dry before a normal order could land is flagged separately with an expedite quantity, so the supplier call happens this week and not after the listing shows sold out.

Dead stock in dollars

Stocky's reports showed slow sellers. Storekeeper puts a cash figure on them and ranks them, so the markdown list is ready before the next buying cycle.

Stores, warehouses and channels

POS locations and your online store in one view, with multichannel sync on Growth for sellers who also list on marketplaces. Starter covers a single location.

Migration plan

How to move off Stocky in four steps

Most of the work is saving what Stocky knew before read-only access ends.

1

Export from Stocky now

Download completed purchase order reports, stocktake history and historical cost data as CSV. Supplier records do not export, so copy supplier names, contacts and lead times by hand.

2

Connect your store

Storekeeper reads products, variants, locations and order history. Six months of sales starts the forecast; twelve lets it see holiday and seasonal peaks.

3

Re-enter supplier lead times

Add each supplier once with its usual lead time. Every SKU from that supplier inherits it. The cost data you exported is what prices your dead stock.

4

Buy from the verdicts

Each SKU comes back healthy, reorder with a quantity, stockout risk or dead stock. Approve the drafts and keep receiving in Shopify admin.

Who switches

Merchants who need a Stocky alternative, not just Shopify admin

If a person used to open Stocky every Monday to decide what to buy, Shopify admin alone will not replace that hour.

POS Pro retailers with a few stores

Two to five shops, one buyer, dozens of suppliers. Stocky's suggested orders were the buying process. Without them, reorders fall back to walking the floor and guessing.

Online brands with variant-heavy catalogs

Apparel, footwear and accessories where demand is uneven across sizes and colors. A per-variant forecast stops you reordering a whole size run when only two sizes sold.

Seasonal sellers heading into Q4

Stocky shut down weeks before the holiday buying window. A store that orders gifts or outerwear now needs a forecast that reads last year's peak, not a flat low-stock threshold.

Shopify plus marketplace sellers

When the same SKU sells on Shopify and Amazon, demand has to be read across both. Our Shopify inventory management page covers syncing stock across channels.

Best Stocky alternatives compared on price

Prices from each vendor's own pricing page. Where a vendor only quotes, we say so.

Option Price Forecasting and purchase orders Best for
Shopify admin (built in) Included with Shopify Purchase orders, transfers and suppliers; no demand forecast Stores that used Stocky only for POs and counts
Storekeeper $49/mo Starter, $149/mo Growth ($39 and $119 billed yearly) Per-SKU forecasting on every plan; auto-drafted POs on Growth Merchants whose Stocky job was deciding what and how much to reorder
Sumtracker Replenish $119/mo ($100 annual) up to 2,500 orders a year; Manage $59/mo 12-month forecasting and POs on Replenish only Sellers who need stock sync across stores plus reorder suggestions
Prediko $49/mo under $100k GMV; higher bands quoted AI forecasting and POs included; BOM forecasting +$20/mo Shopify brands comfortable with pricing that rises with GMV
StockTrim Priced by revenue band, for example $298/mo at $3M to $5M Forecasting and POs; multi-level BOM forecasting +$90/mo Brands that also make products from raw materials
Inventory Planner Quote only, based on inventory volume Forecasting and POs, unlimited users Larger catalogs that want a long-established planning tool

Revenue and GMV pricing looks cheap for a small store and climbs as you grow; Storekeeper prices by location and channel instead. If what you really need is barcode receiving and picking, a scanning system suits you better, and our inventory software with barcode scanner page compares those. If you also run Inventory Planner quotes, see our Inventory Planner alternative breakdown.

Frequently asked

Stocky replacement questions, answered

Is Stocky being discontinued?
Yes. Shopify shut Stocky down on August 31, 2026, after removing it from the Shopify App Store on February 2, 2026. Its transfers and min/max forecasting had already stopped in July 2025. Merchants keep read-only access for at least 90 days after shutdown to export reports, and daily inventory work now runs in Shopify admin and POS.
What is replacing Stocky?
Shopify is replacing Stocky with the inventory management built into Shopify admin and POS: purchase orders, linked transfers for receiving, suppliers, Quick count stocktakes and Shopify Flow low-stock alerts. It does not replace Stocky's suggested order quantities with a per-SKU forecast, so merchants who bought from those suggestions add a forecasting app such as Storekeeper, Prediko or StockTrim.
Does Shopify have inventory forecasting?
Not in the sense Stocky users mean. Shopify admin has no per-SKU demand forecast, reorder point or safety stock calculation. Shopify points merchants to Sidekick, its AI assistant, to ask questions about sales history, and to Flow for fixed low-stock alerts. A forecasting app is still needed to turn sales history into order quantities.
What happens to my Stocky data?
It does not move into Shopify automatically. During the read-only window you can export completed purchase order reports, stocktake history and historical cost data as CSV. Supplier records cannot be exported, and Shopify's purchase order CSV import only adds line items to a new draft, without past statuses, received quantities or supplier links.
What is the best Stocky alternative?
If you only used Stocky for purchase orders and counts, Shopify admin is enough and costs nothing extra. If you relied on its forecasting, pick a planning app: Storekeeper from $49 a month for per-SKU forecasts and reorder points, Sumtracker Replenish at $119 for sync plus forecasting, or StockTrim if you manufacture from raw materials.
How much does a Stocky replacement cost?
Published prices for Shopify forecasting apps start around $49 a month: Storekeeper Starter at $49, Prediko at $49 for stores under $100k in GMV, and Sumtracker Replenish at $119. StockTrim and Prediko rise with revenue, and Inventory Planner quotes on request. Stocky itself was bundled with Shopify POS Pro, so this is often a new line in the budget.
