Shopify purchase orders app: purchase order management for Shopify with the quantities filled in

Shopify admin can record a purchase order and receive it. It cannot tell you what to put on it. Storekeeper forecasts every variant, works out what to reorder from each supplier and by when, and hands you a draft PO to check and send.

The short answer

Shopify has purchase orders built into admin at no extra cost: you add a supplier, type the products, quantities and costs, and receive the stock through a linked transfer. A Shopify purchase order app is worth paying for when you need something admin does not do. Paperwork apps ($10 to $40 a month) email POs, handle dropship orders and sync bills to QuickBooks or Xero. Forecasting apps decide the quantities. Storekeeper suggests an order quantity for every SKU from $49 a month and drafts one purchase order per supplier on the $149 Growth plan.

What Shopify already does

Shopify purchase orders in admin, and the gaps an app fills

Since Stocky shut down on August 31, 2026, purchase orders live in Shopify admin. The record keeping is solid. The buying decision is still yours to make by hand.

Purchasing job Shopify admin today What a purchase order app adds
Record the PO Products, quantities, costs, payment terms and supplier on one purchase order, saved as a draft or marked Ordered Nothing essential; admin handles this well
Receive stock A linked inventory transfer tracks the shipment and adds units when you receive Partial receipts and landed cost handling vary by app
Decide what and how much to order You type every quantity; Flow can alert at a fixed threshold per variant A suggested quantity per SKU from forecast demand, lead time, safety stock and stock already on order
Group lines by supplier One PO at a time, built by hand Every SKU due from the same supplier lands on one draft, so you hit minimums and shipping breaks
Know when to order No sell-out date or order-by date A date for each SKU: order by this day or run out before the shipment lands
Send to the supplier and to the books Manual PDF or email to the vendor; some apps post the PO as a bill in QuickBooks or Xero
How it works

From Shopify sales to a draft purchase order in four steps

The demo above runs the same chain on sample data. Every quantity traces back to sales, a lead time and a buffer you can see.

1

Connect Shopify

Storekeeper reads orders, variants, stock by location and vendor from your store. Each variant is one SKU with its own history.

2

Set supplier lead times

Enter the lead time once per supplier and override it per SKU where one product ships slower. Actual arrival times are tracked against the quote.

3

Get quantities per SKU

Each variant gets a forecast with trend and seasonality, a reorder point and a suggested quantity, net of what is on hand and already on order. The math is on our inventory replenishment software page.

4

Review the draft PO

On Growth, lines roll into one draft per supplier with costs and expected arrival. Adjust for a promo, drop a line, then send. Nothing goes out without you.

What you get

Shopify purchase order management features that decide the order

Six jobs Shopify merchants still do in a spreadsheet before they open the purchase order screen.

Suggested order quantities

Forecast demand over the lead time plus safety stock, minus stock on hand and on order. One number per variant, recalculated daily.

Draft POs grouped by supplier

Everything due from one vendor on one draft, with unit cost and expected arrival, so the order clears minimums instead of trickling out in small shipments.

Order-by dates

Days of cover compared with lead time. When a normal order would land after the variant sells out, it is flagged for this week.

Seasonal lift before Q4

Last year's holiday curve and this year's trend raise quantities ahead of the peak, not after your best seller is gone.

Open-order awareness

Units already on a PO are subtracted, so a shortage you ordered for last week is not ordered twice.

Dead stock kept off the PO

Variants with no sales in 60, 90 or 180 days are listed with the dollars tied up, so you stop reordering what does not sell.

The wider purchasing workflow, including blanket orders and expedite lanes, is on our purchase order software page.

Who buys a Shopify purchase order app

Built for Shopify stores that reorder the same products every month

If you dropship or sell one-offs, a paperwork app or admin is enough. If you hold stock and reorder from suppliers, the quantity is the expensive part.

Former Stocky users

POs moved into admin, suggested quantities did not. Our Stocky replacement page maps every Stocky job to where it lives now.

DTC brands with overseas factories

Lead times of 45 to 90 days mean the Q4 order goes out in August. The forecast sets quantities by variant so the MOQ is spent on sizes and colors that sell.

Retailers on Shopify POS

Several store locations, one buyer. Quantities are forecast per location and the draft PO covers them all. See our Shopify inventory management page.

Stores buying from many vendors

Boutiques and specialty retailers with 20 or more vendors need to know which supplier to call this week. When a vendor keeps missing dates, you can find alternative suppliers and move the SKU without losing its sales history.

Best purchase order app for Shopify, compared on price and what it decides

Prices from each app's Shopify App Store listing or the vendor's pricing page. Paperwork apps and forecasting apps solve different problems.

Option Published price Suggests quantities? Strong at Best for
Shopify admin purchase orders Included with Shopify No Recording POs, suppliers, receiving through transfers Stores with a few suppliers and steady, simple reorders

Auto Purchase Orders From $39.99/mo, free trial Replenishment listed; built around order-driven POs Combining orders into supplier POs, bills to QuickBooks and Xero, API and webhooks Dropship-heavy stores that need POs in the books
Prediko $49/mo under $100k GMV; higher GMV bands quoted Yes Shopify-only forecasting and POs, unlimited users and SKUs Shopify-only DTC brands priced by revenue
Storekeeper Starter $49/mo, Growth $149/mo ($39 and $119 billed yearly); no order or GMV cap Yes, on every plan Per-SKU forecast, reorder points from lead times; draft POs by supplier and multichannel sync on Growth Stores that hold stock, reorder from suppliers and also sell on Amazon, eBay or Etsy

The honest split: if your problem is sending tidy POs or routing dropship orders, a $10 to $40 app does it well. If it is ordering too little of the best seller and too much of everything else, you need the quantity. One naming trap: "Easy Purchase Orders" and similar apps let your B2B customers request a PO from your cart; they are for selling on terms, not for buying stock. Compare plans on the pricing page.

Frequently asked

Shopify purchase order questions, answered

Does Shopify have purchase orders?
Yes. Shopify admin includes purchase orders on every plan: you create suppliers, add products with quantities, costs and payment terms, save a draft or mark it Ordered, and receive the stock through a linked inventory transfer. What admin does not do is suggest the quantities, group reorders by supplier or tell you when to order.
What is the best purchase order app for Shopify?
It depends on the job. For tidy PO documents, Full Shelf at $9.99 a month is enough. For dropship POs and bills in QuickBooks or Xero, Auto Purchase Orders starts at $39.99. For deciding what and how much to reorder, pick a forecasting app: Storekeeper suggests quantities from $49 a month and drafts POs by supplier on the $149 Growth plan.
Can Shopify automatically create purchase orders?
Not on its own. Shopify Flow can alert you when a variant drops below a fixed number, but you still build the purchase order and type each quantity. Apps create them automatically in two ways: from customer orders for dropshipping, or from a forecast and reorder point for stocked products. Storekeeper does the second on its Growth plan, and you approve every draft.
How do I create a purchase order in Shopify?
In Shopify admin, go to Products, then Purchase orders, and create a purchase order. Pick the supplier and destination location, add products with quantities and costs, set payment terms and shipping, then save it as a draft or mark it as ordered. When the shipment arrives, receive it through the linked transfer to add the units to stock.
What replaced Stocky purchase orders?
Shopify moved purchase orders, suppliers and transfers into Shopify admin when Stocky shut down on August 31, 2026. Stocky's suggested order quantities were not carried over. Stores that relied on them now use a forecasting app to fill in quantities. Our Stocky replacement page compares the options with prices.
How much does a Shopify purchase order app cost?
Published prices run from $9.99 to about $150 a month. Full Shelf and Ultimate Purchase Orders start at $9.99, Auto Purchase Orders at $39.99, Prediko at $49 for stores under $100k GMV, and Storekeeper at $49 with suggested quantities or $149 with draft POs and multichannel sync. Shopify admin purchase orders cost nothing extra.
