The short answer

Shopify tracks inventory separately at every location, up to 10 locations on Basic, Grow and Advanced and 200 on Plus. It routes orders and records transfers between locations. It does not forecast demand per location or tell you where the next purchase order should land. Storekeeper adds that layer: a forecast, reorder point and order quantity for each SKU at each warehouse and store. One location is $49 a month, up to five locations and channels is $149.

One SKU, three locations

The store total says 190 units and one shop sells out Friday

A total hides the split. This is the view that decides whether you buy more or move what you already own.

Warehouse, Reno

150

on hand, sells 6 a week online

25 weeks of cover

Cash sitting on a shelf. No order needed until spring.

Store, Austin

8

on hand, sells 11 a week

5 days of cover

Sells out before the weekend. Move 40 from Reno today.

Store, Denver

32

on hand, sells 4 a week

8 weeks of cover

Healthy. Leave it alone.

Figures are illustrative. A buyer who looks only at the store total (190 units, about nine weeks) orders nothing and loses Austin's weekend. A buyer who looks only at Austin places a rush order for stock the company already owns two states away.

Shopify is a good ledger for several locations. The gap is the decision on top of the ledger, and it grows with every location you add: 2,000 variants in four locations is 8,000 stock positions to watch.

Who buys this

Built for Shopify brands that outgrew one stockroom

The trouble starts with the second location. A brand opens a retail shop next to its online warehouse, adds a 3PL on the other coast, or takes over a second store. Sales patterns split, the spreadsheet that worked for one stockroom gets a tab per location, and someone spends Monday morning reconciling them.

  • Online store plus one or two shops. Shopify POS in the stores, a back room or warehouse shipping web orders. Growth at $149 a month plans each of them separately.
  • Two warehouses or a warehouse and a 3PL. East and West stock with different regional demand. You need to know which site the next container should go to.
  • Six or more locations. Scale at $499 a month covers unlimited locations and adds transfer suggestions, so surplus in one store is moved before you buy more.
  • Still one location. Starter at $49 a month gives you the same forecast and reorder points, ready for the day you open the second.
How it works

From Shopify locations to one purchase order per supplier

The demo at the top of the page runs the same chain on sample data, so you can see what gets flagged and why.

1

Connect Shopify

Your locations, variants, stock levels and order history come in as they are in the admin. Each location keeps its own sales history.

2

Set suppliers and lead times

One lead time, order day and case size per supplier, with overrides for the items or sites that get their freight slower.

3

Forecast each location

Trend and seasonality per SKU per location, then a reorder point and safety stock recalculated every day as sales move.

4

Order by supplier

Every line shows the quantity, the location it is for and an order-by date. On Growth the lines become a draft purchase order per supplier.

What you get

Multi location inventory planning on top of Shopify

Shopify keeps selling, counting and routing. Storekeeper decides what each location needs next.

A forecast per location

The same hoodie sells 11 a week in Austin and 4 in Denver. Each location gets its own number, so nobody splits an order evenly and hopes.

Reorder points that move

Sized from each location's sales and the supplier's lead time to that address, updated daily instead of once a season.

Days of cover, side by side

One row per SKU with cover at every location. The five-day store next to the 25-week warehouse is impossible to miss.

Transfer before you buy

On Scale, surplus at one location is offered as a transfer to the location running short, before the SKU goes on a purchase order.

Draft purchase orders

On Growth, suggested lines are grouped by supplier, rounded to case packs and minimums, with the destination set on each line.

Dead stock by location

Items with no sale in 90 days, ranked by the cash they hold at each site. Often the same SKU is dead in one store and selling in another.

Your options, priced

Multi location inventory apps for Shopify, compared honestly

Prices from each vendor's own pricing page or App Store listing. Where a vendor quotes, we say so.

Option Monthly cost How it charges Best for
Shopify admin alone $0 extra Included in the Shopify plan Two locations, a few hundred steady SKUs, and time to check each one weekly
Prediko $49 to $349 under $5M in sales Shopify revenue band, locations unlimited Shopify-only brands under $500k that want a success manager
StockTrim $67 to $397 under $5M in sales Revenue band, multi-location planning included Brands that also run an ERP such as Cin7, Unleashed or Fishbowl
Sumtracker Replenish From $119 Orders per year, up to $599 at 100,000 orders Sellers who also need listing sync and bundles across marketplaces
Inventory Planner by Sage $119.99 Essentials, full product by quote Essentials covers a single warehouse Larger brands with a dedicated buyer and budget for a quoted tool
Storekeeper $49, $149 or $499 (half that billed yearly) Flat, by locations: 1, up to 5, unlimited Merchants who want a fixed price that does not rise with revenue or order count

Where the others win: Prediko and StockTrim do not limit locations, so a brand under $100k in sales with six locations pays less there than on our Scale plan. Where we fit: two to five locations at any revenue, for $149 flat. The full band tables are in our Prediko pricing and StockTrim pricing guides, and eight apps are compared on the Shopify inventory forecasting app page.

Frequently asked

Shopify multi location inventory questions, answered

Can Shopify track inventory in multiple locations?
Yes. Shopify tracks inventory separately at each location you add, whether it is a warehouse, a retail store, a pop-up or a fulfillment app. Quantities appear per location on the Inventory page, in the bulk editor and in inventory CSV files. Stock is not pooled: each location has its own count, and orders are assigned to a location by your order routing rules.
How many locations can you have on Shopify?
Shopify allows 10 locations on the Basic, Grow and Advanced plans and 200 on Shopify Plus. Locations you deactivate do not count toward the limit. Storekeeper plans follow a similar logic: Starter covers one location, Growth up to five locations and sales channels, and Scale is unlimited.
How do I transfer inventory between locations in Shopify?
In the Shopify admin, go to Products, then Transfers, and create a transfer with an origin and a destination location. Add the products and quantities, mark it as in transit, and receive it in full or in part at the destination, including on Shopify POS. Shopify records the move. Working out which SKUs to move is the part a planning app such as Storekeeper adds.
Does Shopify support multiple warehouses?
Yes. Each warehouse is a location with its own stock, and order routing sends each online order to the warehouse that can ship it complete, inside the destination market and closest to the customer. Shopify does not tell you how much stock each warehouse should carry. That takes a forecast per warehouse, covered on our demand forecasting software page.
Can multiple Shopify stores share the same inventory?
Not natively. Locations share a catalog inside one Shopify store, but two separate stores each keep their own inventory, so selling the same stock on both needs a sync app. On Storekeeper Growth each store is a sales channel drawing on the same stock, with quantities kept in step. See multichannel inventory management.
What is the best multi location inventory app for Shopify?
It depends on what is missing. For reorder planning under $500k in sales, Prediko ($49 to $119 a month) is good value. Sellers who also need marketplace listing sync often pick Sumtracker. For two to five locations at a fixed price, Storekeeper Growth is $149 a month with a forecast per location and draft purchase orders. Stores replacing Stocky can start at our Stocky alternative page.
