Shopify low stock alert app: Shopify low inventory alerts and low stock notifications that say how much to reorder
A fixed threshold of 10 units warns you about a slow seller months early and about your best seller days too late. Storekeeper sets a reorder point for every variant from its sales and your supplier's lead time, then tells you the quantity to order.

Shopify admin does not send low stock alerts by itself. You get them from Shopify Flow, which has a ready-made template that emails you when a variant drops below a number you choose, or from an alert app on the Shopify App Store, most of which cost $3 to $40 a month. Both fire at a threshold you type. If your products sell at very different speeds or your suppliers take weeks to deliver, you need a reorder point per variant instead. Storekeeper calculates it from sales, lead time and safety stock from $49 a month.
Why a Shopify low inventory alert at 10 units still lets best sellers sell out
An alert is only useful if it leaves enough time to reorder. That time depends on how fast the variant sells and how long the supplier takes, and both differ by product.
| Variant | Sells per day | Supplier lead time | Alert at a flat 10 units | Calculated reorder point |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best-selling tee, size M | 4 | 21 days | Fires with 2.5 days of stock left; sold out for about 18 days | 112 units (21 days of demand plus 7 days of safety stock) |
| Same tee, size XXL | 0.2 | 21 days | Fires with 50 days left; you reorder a month early and tie up cash | 6 units |
| Imported mug from an overseas factory | 1.5 | 60 days | Fires with under 7 days left; out of stock for most of two months | 111 units (60 days of demand plus 14 days of safety stock) |
| Holiday gift set in November | 3 now, 9 in December | 14 days | Fires on last year's pace; misses the peak entirely | Rises ahead of December as the seasonal forecast lifts demand |
Reorder point = average daily sales x (lead time + safety days). You can keep typing that into an alert app for every variant and update it every month, or have it recalculated daily. The full math, including how safety stock is sized, is on our inventory replenishment software page.
Low stock notification in Shopify: the built-in options
Shopify has no low stock setting on the product page. These are the ways a store gets warned today.
| Option | How the alert works | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify Flow template | "Get notified by email when product variant inventory is low": the variant inventory quantity changed trigger checks the new and prior quantity and emails you when it crosses your number | One threshold per workflow, maintained by hand; one email per variant as it happens; no quantity to order |
| Inventory report in Analytics | Sort by available quantity or days of inventory remaining and check it yourself | A report you must remember to open, not an alert |
| Stocky low stock report | Used to list variants under a minimum for POS Pro stores | Stocky shut down on August 31, 2026. See our Stocky replacement guide |
| Purchase orders in admin | Record and receive what you order | No alert and no suggested quantity; compare on our Shopify purchase orders app page |
From Shopify sales to an alert with a reorder quantity in four steps
The demo above runs the same chain on sample data, so you can see which variants would be flagged and why.
Connect Shopify
Storekeeper reads orders, variants, vendors and stock by location. Every variant is treated as its own SKU with its own sales history.
Add supplier lead times
One lead time per vendor, with overrides for slow products. This is the input a flat threshold ignores, and the one that decides whether the alert is early enough.
Reorder points set themselves
Each variant gets a forecast with trend and seasonality, then a reorder point and safety stock, recalculated daily as sales move.
Alert, quantity, draft PO
When a variant hits its point you get the alert with a suggested quantity and an order-by date. On Growth, lines roll into a draft purchase order per supplier.
Shopify inventory alerts that lead straight to the reorder
An alert app tells you something is low. These are the answers you still need before you can place the order.
A reorder point per variant
Sized from that variant's own sales and lead time, so size M and size XXL of the same product get different triggers.
Suggested order quantity
Forecast demand over the lead time and cover period plus safety stock, minus stock on hand and units already on order.
Order-by dates
Days of cover compared with lead time. Variants that will sell out before a normal shipment lands go to the top of the list.
Seasonal thresholds
Reorder points rise before Q4 and fall after it, so the alert moves with demand instead of being retyped every October.
Per-location stock
Stores on Shopify POS see which location is running short, not just the total across all of them.
Dead stock on the same screen
Variants with no sales in 60, 90 or 180 days are listed with the dollars tied up, so cash goes to what sells.
When a $6 alert app is enough, and when it is not
Be honest about your catalog. The cheap apps are good at what they do.
A threshold app is enough if
You have under a hundred products, they sell at similar steady speeds, your supplier delivers in a few days, and you have time to decide the quantity yourself. Flow or a $3 to $12 app will do.
You need reorder points if
You carry hundreds of variants, lead times run from two weeks to three months, sales swing with seasons and promos, or you keep selling out of best sellers while slow sizes pile up.
DTC brands with overseas factories
A 60-day lead time means the alert must fire two months before the shelf is empty. Only a calculated point gets that right for every variant.
Stores also selling on Amazon, eBay or Etsy
Shopify-only alerts miss the units sold elsewhere. Growth combines channels; see our multichannel inventory management page.
Best low stock alert app for Shopify, compared on price and how the threshold is set
Prices from each app's Shopify App Store listing. Paid plans bill every 30 days in USD.
| App | Published price | How the threshold is set | Reorder quantity? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify Flow | Shopify's own app, no extra fee | A number you type in the workflow condition | No | Stores comfortable building and editing workflows |
| LSA Low Stock Alert | $5.99/mo, up to 300 products | Your threshold; daily summary email plus optional instant alerts, CSV export | No | Small catalogs that want one daily email |
| iAlert Low Stock Alert | $2.99 to $9.99/mo by variant count (1,000 to 100,000) | Storewide or per-variant thresholds; email or Slack | No | Large catalogs that only need the warning |
| MB Low Stock Alert | $9.99 to $19.99/mo (5,000 to 100,000 SKUs) | Per-product or bulk thresholds on a daily or weekly schedule | No | Teams that want scheduled emails to several people |
| Bee Low Stock Alert & Forecast | $5.99 to $11.99/mo; forecasting on Enterprise at $39.99/mo | Fixed thresholds; stock-cover-day thresholds from sales velocity on Enterprise | Order-up-to quantity from $11.99 | Shopify-only stores wanting alerts plus a simple reorder amount |
| Stockie | $4.99 to $9.99/mo alerts; $29.99 forecasting; $59.99 with POs | Manual thresholds, or auto-calculated from forecast, lead time and safety stock on Pro | Yes on Pro and Pro Plus | Shopify-only stores that want alerts, forecast and POs in one app |
| Storekeeper | Starter $49/mo, Growth $149/mo ($39 and $119 billed yearly) | Calculated per variant from forecast, lead time and safety stock, recalculated daily | Yes, with order-by dates; draft POs by supplier on Growth | Stores that also sell on Amazon, eBay or Etsy, or need dead stock and multi-location planning |
The honest split: if you only sell on Shopify and want the lowest bill, Stockie Pro at $29.99 or Bee Enterprise at $39.99 add a velocity-based threshold to the alert. Storekeeper costs more because it plans across channels and locations, sizes safety stock per variant and shows the cash stuck in slow stock. Plans are on the pricing page.
