QuickBooks inventory forecasting software: AI sales forecasting for QuickBooks Online
QuickBooks knows exactly what you sold last quarter. It does not tell you what you will sell next month or what to reorder today. Storekeeper reads your QuickBooks sales history and returns a forecast, a reorder point and a buy quantity for every SKU.

QuickBooks does not forecast inventory demand. QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced track quantity, cost and a reorder point you type in by hand, and the Forecasts feature in Online Advanced projects income and expenses, not units per item. QuickBooks Enterprise Platinum and Diamond can raise a purchase order when stock crosses a reorder point, but you still set that point yourself. To forecast inventory from QuickBooks data you add forecasting software that reads your item list and sales history, calculates demand and safety stock per SKU, and hands the buy list back to your books. Storekeeper does that from $49 a month.
Can QuickBooks forecast inventory? Edition by edition
Each QuickBooks edition handles stock differently. None of them turns sales history into a per-SKU demand forecast.
| Capability | QuickBooks Online Plus / Advanced | QuickBooks Enterprise (Advanced Inventory) | Storekeeper on top of QuickBooks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quantity on hand and COGS | Yes | Yes, with FIFO and lot tracking | Reads it from your QuickBooks export |
| Demand forecast per SKU | No (Forecasts cover income and expenses) | No | Yes, 30, 60 or 90 days, with trend |
| Reorder point | A static number you enter | A static number you enter | Calculated from demand, lead time and variability |
| Safety stock | No | No | Yes, sized per SKU |
| Suggested buy quantity | No | Auto PO at your threshold | Yes, rolled into draft POs per supplier |
| Dead stock in dollars | Only through a custom report | Only through a custom report | Flagged automatically with the cash it ties up |
From QuickBooks sales history to a purchase order in four steps
Your books stay in QuickBooks. The forecasting happens next to them.
Bring in your QuickBooks data
Import the Product/Service list with quantities on hand and a Sales by Product/Service Detail report covering at least six months. Twelve is better if your products are seasonal.
Add lead times
QuickBooks stores vendors but not how long they take to deliver. Enter a lead time per supplier once, and every reorder point for that supplier's SKUs uses it.
Get a verdict per SKU
Each item comes back as healthy, reorder with a quantity, stockout risk inside the lead time, or dead stock with the dollars it freezes.
Send the PO, book it in QuickBooks
Suggestions roll into a draft purchase order per supplier. Approve it, and the purchase is recorded in QuickBooks the way your accountant already expects.
Inventory forecasting built for the way QuickBooks users buy stock
Six things QuickBooks leaves to a spreadsheet, handled per SKU and recalculated as sales come in.
Sales forecasting per item
Every SKU gets its own rate and trend. A product that doubled last month forecasts hotter than its twelve-month average, and a fading one forecasts cooler.
Reorder points that move
The reorder point is recalculated from forecast demand and supplier lead time, so the number in your head and the number that matters stop drifting apart.
Safety stock sized to reality
Steady sellers get a thin buffer and volatile ones a thicker one, instead of a flat two weeks of everything that ties up cash on the wrong items.
Stockout warnings in time to act
Items that will run out before a normal order could arrive are flagged separately, with an expedite quantity, so you call the supplier today rather than apologize to customers later.
Dead stock priced in dollars
Your balance sheet counts slow stock as an asset. Storekeeper shows which items have stalled and how much cash sits on them, so markdowns happen while the goods still have value.
Draft purchase orders
Reorder suggestions group by supplier into ready-to-send purchase orders with quantities and expected arrival dates. Buying becomes review and send.
Who needs inventory forecasting for QuickBooks
If purchasing decisions come from a QuickBooks report plus somebody's memory, this is for you.
Wholesalers and distributors on QuickBooks Online
Hundreds of SKUs, suppliers with six to twelve week lead times, and a buyer who reorders from the Inventory Valuation Summary. Long lead times are exactly where a static reorder point fails first. Our wholesale inventory software page goes deeper on that case.
Ecommerce brands with QuickBooks books
Sales happen on Shopify or Amazon, the books close in QuickBooks, and nobody owns the question of what to reorder. One forecast across channels answers it without a weekly spreadsheet.
Small manufacturers on QuickBooks Enterprise
Advanced Inventory will build assemblies and raise a PO at a threshold. Storekeeper decides what that threshold should be for finished goods, so the automation fires at the right moment.
Bookkeepers and fractional CFOs
Clients ask why cash is tight when the P&L looks fine. The answer is often slow stock. A per-SKU dead-stock report in dollars turns that conversation into a list of actions.
QuickBooks inventory forecasting tools compared
Published list prices where the vendor publishes them. Several tools in this category quote only, and we say so rather than guess.
| Tool | Starting price | How it is priced | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Storekeeper | $49/mo ($39 billed yearly) | Per location and channel, not per seat | QuickBooks users who want a buy list per SKU without an implementation project |
| StockTrim | Varies; $298/mo shown for $3M to $5M revenue (annual) | By company revenue, unlimited users and SKUs | Established distributors comfortable paying on revenue bands |
| Inventory Planner by Sage | Quote only | By inventory volume | Larger ecommerce brands that want a planning layer |
| Streamline (GMDH) | Quote on request | Custom | Mid-market planners who want simulation and multi-echelon depth |
| Fishbowl | $729/mo Scale (annual) includes forecasting; add-on below that | Per tier with user limits | Teams replacing QuickBooks inventory entirely with a full warehouse system |
If you need barcode receiving, bin locations and manufacturing orders as well as the forecast, a full system like Fishbowl is the stronger fit, and our Fishbowl alternatives comparison lays out that trade-off. If QuickBooks already records stock well enough and the missing piece is knowing what to buy, a forecasting layer costs far less and takes an afternoon to set up.
